On April 24th, 2018 the Association held their 112th Anniversary and Awards Banquet. The following awards were presented at that time.
Pio Zapasodi Congressional Award
This award is name after the late Pio Zappasodi, a long time member of the Delaware County Firemen's Association who represented the 8th District on the Executive Board. This award is presented yearly by former Congressman Weldon, to a person who has helped the Fire Service in Delaware County
The 2017 recipient is: Gerry Davis of Bethel Township Hose Company No. 1
The 2017 recipient is Gerry Davis is a 58 year member of the fire company joining in 1960. Eight years later Gerry would start his first tenure as Chief from 1968-1975. Gerry also served in roles of President and Safety Officer before serving his second tenure as Chief from 1997-2001. In 1997 Gerry was appointed Bethel Township Fire Marshal., which he held until 2002.
In 2002 Gerry relocated to Oxford, Chester County area where he continues to serve a a volunteer firefighter for Union Fire Company of Oxford, PA. As a member of Union Fire Company. Gerry has held the positions as Assistant Chief, Safety Officer, and Director. Gerry is also a U.S. Army Veteran & a Life Member of the Delaware County Firemen's Association.
The 2017 Business of the year is Mike Glacken of I-N-R Advisors Pension Consultants
The Mike Glacken has been managing DCFA investments for the past 20+ years. Mike attends our dinner & board meeting to keep us up to date & informed on our investments.
Mike represents other fire companies in the county and assists them with their financial investments.
SPECIAL AWARDS
Alhaji Saccoh Collingdale Fire Company # 1
Collecting & Delivering much needed fire gear to Sierra Leone Fire Department. Many Delaware County Fire Companies helped & contributed to his program.
Chris Yocum Folsom Fire Company
For providing all the hand made models that were used over the years for tabletop training in the county.
Collingdale Fire Company # 1 & Collingdale Fire Company # 2
Both Collingdale Fire Companies for the last 9 years have collecting Toy for Tots and providing for over 100 families during the holiday season.
Eugene ( Gene ) Bidoli Collingdale Fire Company # 1
Gene has been master of ceremonies for many banquets and we wanted to acknowledge him for the time & effort he puts into making the banquets go smoothly on banquet night.
Harry Maitland Lifetime Achievement Award
The Harry Maitland Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to a member of the Delaware County Firemen's Association who has shown life long devotion, support, and commitment to the Fire Service of Delaware County in an outstanding manner. Any member in good standing of the Association is eligible to be nominated by any individual member or organization member in good standing for this award.
The 2015 recipient is: John W. Weeks
This year's recipient is John William Weeks of Cardington-Stonehurst Fire Company.
John is a life member of the Firemen's Association State of Pennsylvania, and the
Delaware County Firemen's Association, where he is serves as the 8th District
Director. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors he also actively supports
this association on many of our ongoing projects giving of his time and talents
every day.
He has been involved in the Delaware County Fire Service since 1963 and is an
active Fire Police responder. He is a member of the 7th and 8th District Fire Police
Association, a life member of the Darby Fire Patrol #2, and a life member of
Cardington-Stonehurst Fire Company, where he also serves on their Board of
Directors.
John has represented the Delaware County Firemen's Association at the PA State
level as a Board member of the Firemen's Legislative Federation, a member of the
State Wide Advisory Board of the Pennsylvania Fire Services Institute, and delegate
to the Firemen's Association of State of PA, where he serves on the Awards and By-
Laws committees.
He is a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Upper Darby Square Club, which
consists of Police and Firefighters. John is a World War II veteran having served in
the Pacific, has served as a PA Deputy Game Protector, and has his own pest
control company.
Congratulations John, and thanks for your many years of service to your
community, Delaware County, and your country.
